Energy storage tenders up 25% in July 2020

Energy storage tenders in July 2020 saw 25 tenders announced, marking a rise of 25% over the last 12-month average of 20, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Supply & Erection: 12 tenders and a 48% share
2. Project Implementation: seven tenders and a 28% share
3. Power Purchase Agreement: four tenders and a 16% share
4. Consulting & Similar Services: one tender and a 4% share
5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: one tender and a 4% share.

North America leads energy storage activity in July 2020

Comparing tenders activity in energy storage segment in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 17 tenders and a share of 68% during July 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with four tenders and a 16% share and Middle East and Africa with three tenders and a 12% share.

Solar is leading technology for energy storage tenders in July 2020

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 11 tenders with a 55% share, followed by wind with four tenders and a 20% share and thermal with two tenders and a 10% share.

Energy storage tenders in July 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of energy storage tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. NSW Coalition State Government: 8,000MW from one tender
2. PacifiCorp (United States): 4,300MW from one tender
3. Eskom Holdings SOC (South Africa): 80MW capacity from one tender.
