Europe power plant tenders activity up 50% in Q2 2020

There were 51 power plant tenders announced in the Europe region in Q2 2020, marking a rise of 50% over the last 12-month average of 34, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

T&D Project stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Europe region in Q2 2020 with 70 tenders and a 24.1% share, followed by T&D Equipment with 64 tenders and a 22.1% share and Generation Equipment with 59 tenders and a 20.3% share during the quarter.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 39 tenders and a 76.5% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six tenders and an 11.8% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: six tenders and an 11.8% share.

Solar is top technology for Europe power plant tenders in Q2 2020

Looking at power plant tenders by the type of technology in the Europe region, solar accounted for 21 tenders with a 42% share, followed by thermal with 11 tenders and a 22% share and hydro with seven tenders and a 14% share.

Europe power plant tenders in Q2 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Europe were:

  1. Ministro do Ambiente e da Transicao Energetica (Portugal) and Netherlands Enterprise Agency (Netherlands): 700MW from one tender
  2. VERBUND Hydro Power (Austria): 480MW from one tender
  3. Armenia Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency Fund and Iliako Velos Ena (Greece): 200MW capacity from one tender.
