Middle East and Africa power plant tenders activity up 87% in Q1 2021

There were 97 power plant tenders announced in the Middle East and Africa region in Q1 2021, marking a rise of 87% over the last four-quarter average of 52, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

T&D Equipment stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the Middle East and Africa region in Q1 2021 with 282 tenders and a 50.4% share, followed by Power Plant with 97 tenders and a 17.3% share and T&D Project with 88 tenders and a 15.7% share during the quarter.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 78 tenders and an 80.4% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 14 tenders and a 14.4% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five tenders and a 5.2% share.

Solar is top technology for Middle East and Africa power plant tenders in Q1 2021

Looking at power plant tenders by the type of technology in the Middle East and Africa region, solar accounted for 80 tenders with a 78.4% share, followed by hydro with nine tenders and an 8.8% share and wind with four tenders and a 3.9% share.

Middle East and Africa power plant tenders in Q1 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in Middle East and Africa were:

  1. Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Morocco): 400MW from one tender
  2. Tanzania Electric Supply (Tanzania): 284MW from three tenders
  3. Germany Trade And Invest (Germany): 30.22MW capacity from two tenders.
