North America electricity procurement tenders activity up 92% in Q2 2021

There were 23 electricity procurement tenders announced in the North America region in Q2 2021, marking a rise of 92% over the last four-quarter average of 12, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

T&D Equipment stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q2 2021 with 300 tenders and a 43% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 228 tenders and a 32.7% share and Power Plant with 49 tenders and a 7% share during the quarter.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Power Purchase Agreement: 19 tenders and an 82.6% share
  2. Project Implementation: two tenders and an 8.7% share
  3. Electricity Supply: two tenders and an 8.7% share.

Solar is top technology for North America electricity procurement tenders in Q2 2021

Looking at electricity procurement tenders by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 14 tenders with a 46.7% share, followed by wind with ten tenders and a 33.3% share and hydro with two tenders and a 6.7% share.

North America electricity procurement tenders in Q2 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of electricity procurement tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

  1. Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) (United States): 3,300MW from two tenders
  2. Fitchburg Gas and Electric Light (United States), Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (United States), Massachusetts Electric (United States), Nantucket Electric (United States) and NSTAR Electric (United States): 1,600MW from one tender
  3. Dominion Energy (United States): 1,277MW capacity from three tenders.
