Power industry tenders in North America for December 2020 down 13%

North America power industry tenders activity in December 2020 saw 182 tenders announced, marking a drop of 13% over the last 12-month average of 210, according to GlobalData’s power database.

North America power industry tenders in December 2020: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in December 2020 with 155 tenders and a share of 85.2%, up 6.5% over the previous month and down 11% when compared with the last 12 month-average, followed by Canada with 27 tenders and a share of 14.8%.

Looking at the last 12-month average, the US held the top spot with 175 tenders, followed by Canada with 34.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in December 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 71 tenders and a 79.8% share, followed by solar with 17 tenders and a 19.1% share and hydro with one tender and a 1.1% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment in North America as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in December 2020, with 73 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (73) and Power Plant (15).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Supply & Erection: 123 tenders and a 67.6% share
2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 41 tenders and a 22.5% share
3. Project Implementation: 15 tenders and an 8.2% share
4. Consulting & Similar Services: two tenders and a 1.1% share
5. Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 0.5% share.

Power tenders in December 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

1. Lafayette Utilities System (United States): 300MW from one tender
2. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (United States): 12.3MW from one tender
3. City of LIncoln (United States): 0.02MW capacity from one tender.
