Power industry tenders in North America for Q4 2020 up 8%

North America power industry tenders activity in Q4 2020 saw 626 tenders announced, marking a rise of 8% over the last four-quarter average of 579, according to GlobalData’s power database.

North America power industry tenders in Q4 2020: The US leads activity

Looking at tenders by country, the US led the activity in Q4 2020 with 527 tenders and a share of 84.2%, down 1.7% over the previous quarter and up 10% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Canada with 99 tenders and a share of 15.8%.

Looking at the last four-quarter average, the US held the top spot with 477 tenders, followed by Canada with 99 and Mexico with one tender.

Thermal is top technology area for tenders in Q4 2020

Looking at tenders divided by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 220 tenders and a 77.7% share, followed by solar with 49 tenders and a 17.3% share and wind with seven tenders and a 2.5% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment in North America power tenders activity during Q4 2020, with 282 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (222) and Energy Storage (46).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

1. Supply & Erection: 444 tenders and a 70.9% share
2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 118 tenders and an 18.8% share
3. Project Implementation: 49 tenders and a 7.8% share
4. Power Purchase Agreement: eight tenders and a 1.3% share
5. Consulting & Similar Services: five tenders and a 0.8% share
6. Electricity Supply: two tenders and a 0.3% share.

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

1. CPS Energy (United States): 1,450MW from one tender
2. State of Rhode Island (United States): 600MW from one tender
3. Delmarva Power & Light (United States): 540MW capacity from one tender.
