North America power plant tenders activity up 23% in Q4 2020

There were 43 power plant tenders announced in the North America region in Q4 2020, marking a rise of 23% over the last four-quarter average of 35, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

T&D Equipment stood at first place when compared with other power tender categories in the North America region in Q4 2020 with 282 tenders and a 43.9% share, followed by Generation Equipment with 222 tenders and a 34.6% share and Energy Storage with 46 tenders and a 7.2% share during the quarter.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

1. Project Implementation: 35 tenders and an 81.4% share
2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five tenders and an 11.6% share
3. Consulting & Similar Services: three tenders and a 7% share.

Solar is top technology for North America power plant tenders in Q4 2020

Looking at power plant tenders by the type of technology in the North America region, solar accounted for 42 tenders with a 91.3% share, followed by wind with two tenders and a 4.3% share and biopower with one tender and a 2.2% share.

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved in North America were:

1. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (United States): 12.3MW from one tender
2. PrInce Edward Island Energy (Canada): 10MW from one tender
3. Alternative Resource Energy Authority (Canada): 9.1MW capacity from one tender.
