Power industry tenders activity in December 2020 saw 617 tenders announced, marking a drop of 26% over the last 12-month average of 834, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Power industry tenders in December 2020: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 263 tenders and a share of 42.6% during December 2020, followed by North America with 182 tenders and a 29.5% share and Europe with 95 tenders and a 15.4% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 61 tenders and a 9.9% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 16 tenders and a 2.6% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 449 tenders, followed by North America with 210.

Solar tops by technology in December 2020

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 125 tenders and a 45.3% share, followed by thermal with 111 tenders and a 40.2% share and hydro with 21 tenders and a 7.6% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment during December 2020, with 227 tenders, followed by Generation Equipment (125) and Power Plant (121).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 299 tenders and a 48.5% share
  2. Project Implementation: 184 tenders and a 29.8% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 108 tenders and a 17.5% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 13 tenders and a 2.1% share
  5. Electricity Supply: six tenders and a 1% share
  6. Others: four tenders and a 0.6% share
  7. Power Purchase Agreement: three tenders and a 0.5% share.

Power tenders in December 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Andhra Pradesh Green Energy: 8,500MW from one tender
  2. Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Spain): 3,000MW from one tender
  3. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,220MW capacity from two tenders.
