Global power industry tenders in December 2020: Solar technology up 5%

Solar technology tenders activity in December 2020 saw 125 tenders announced, marking a rise of 5% over the last 12-month average of 119, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of tenders during December 2020 with a 45.3% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 90 tenders and a 72% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 18 tenders and a 14.4% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: seven tenders and a 5.6% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six tenders and a 4.8% share
  5. Electricity Supply: two tenders and a 1.6% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: two tenders and a 1.6% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar tenders activity in December 2020

Comparing tenders activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 47 tenders and a share of 37.6% during December 2020, followed by Middle East and Africa with 37 tenders and a 29.6% share and Europe with 21 tenders and a 16.8% share.

In fourth place was North America with 17 tenders and a 13.6% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with three tenders and a 2.4% share.

Solar technology tenders in December 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Andhra Pradesh Green Energy: 8,500MW from one tender
  2. Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Spain): 3,000MW from one tender
  3. Bangalore Electricity Supply (India): 1,060MW capacity from one tender.
