Global power industry tenders in January 2020: Solar technology down 30%

Solar technology tenders activity in January 2020 saw 84 tenders announced, marking a drop of 30% over the last 12-month average of 120, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the second position in terms of number of tenders during January 2020 with a 36.5% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 59 tenders and a 70.2% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: ten tenders and an 11.9% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: six tenders and a 7.1% share
  4. Supply & Erection: four tenders and a 4.8% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: four tenders and a 4.8% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 1.2% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar tenders activity in January 2020

Comparing tenders activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 53 tenders and a share of 63.1% during January 2020, followed by Middle East and Africa with 11 tenders and a 13.1% share and North America with eight tenders and a 9.5% share.

In fourth place was Europe with eight tenders and a 9.5% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with four tenders and a 4.8% share.

Solar technology tenders in January 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,418MW from four tenders
  2. Emirates Water and Electricity (United Arab Emirates): 1,500MW from one tender
  3. Renewable Energy Project Development Office (Saudi Arabia): 1,200MW capacity from one tender.
