Global power industry tenders in January 2020: Thermal technology down 36%

Thermal technology tenders activity in January 2020 saw 118 tenders announced, marking a drop of 36% over the last 12-month average of 185, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Oil was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of tenders for the month, accounting for 91 tenders and a 76.5% share, followed by Coal with 14 tenders and an 11.8% share. Gas stood in third place with 14 tenders and an 11.8% share.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the top position in terms of number of tenders during January 2020 with a 51.3% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 81 tenders and a 68.6% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 30 tenders and a 25.4% share
  3. Project Implementation: four tenders and a 3.4% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: two tenders and a 1.7% share
  5. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 0.8% share.

Asia-Pacific leads thermal tenders activity in January 2020

Comparing tenders activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 55 tenders and a share of 46.6% during January 2020, followed by North America with 47 tenders and a 39.8% share and Europe with 11 tenders and a 9.3% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with four tenders and a 3.4% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with one tender and a 0.8% share.

Thermal technology tenders in January 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Thermal technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (India): 1,000MW from one tender
  2. Bangladesh Power Development Board (Bangladesh): 400MW from one tender
