Power industry tenders activity in July 2020 saw 808 tenders announced, marking a drop of 8% over the last 12-month average of 879, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Power industry tenders in July 2020: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 406 tenders and a share of 50.2% during July 2020, followed by North America with 232 tenders and a 28.7% share and Europe with 89 tenders and an 11% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 60 tenders and a 7.4% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 21 tenders and a 2.6% share.

On the basis of the last 12-month average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 545 tenders, followed by North America with 148.

Thermal tops by technology in July 2020

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 150 tenders and a 46.2% share, followed by solar with 129 tenders and a 39.7% share and hydro with 23 tenders and a 7.1% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Equipment was the most popular segment during July 2020, with 276 tenders, followed by T&D Project (209) and Generation Equipment (151).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 354 tenders and a 43.8% share
  2. Project Implementation: 268 tenders and a 33.2% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 139 tenders and a 17.2% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 29 tenders and a 3.6% share
  5. Electricity Supply: ten tenders and a 1.2% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: seven tenders and a 0.9% share
  7. Others: one tender and a 0.1% share.

Power tenders in July 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. NSW Coalition State Government: 8,000MW from one tender
  2. PacifiCorp (United States): 4,300MW from one tender
  3. New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (United States): 4,000MW capacity from one tender.
