Global power industry tenders in March 2020: Thermal technology down 40%

Thermal technology tenders activity in March 2020 saw 108 tenders announced, marking a drop of 40% over the last 12-month average of 181, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Oil was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of tenders for the month, accounting for 87 tenders and an 83.7% share, followed by Coal with 11 tenders and a 10.6% share. Gas stood in third place with six tenders and a 5.8% share.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the top position in terms of number of tenders during March 2020 with a 50.5% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 73 tenders and a 67.6% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 29 tenders and a 26.9% share
  3. Project Implementation: four tenders and a 3.7% share

Asia-Pacific leads thermal tenders activity in March 2020

Comparing tenders activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 55 tenders and a share of 50.9% during March 2020, followed by North America with 38 tenders and a 35.2% share and Europe with nine tenders and an 8.3% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with six tenders and a 5.6% share.
