Solar technology tenders activity in May 2020 saw 79 tenders announced, marking a drop of 25% over the last 12-month average of 106, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the second position in terms of number of tenders during May 2020 with a 31.5% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 54 tenders and a 68.4% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 11 tenders and a 13.9% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: five tenders and a 6.3% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: four tenders and a 5.1% share
  5. Consulting & Similar Services: four tenders and a 5.1% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 1.3% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar tenders activity in May 2020

Comparing tenders activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 36 tenders and a share of 45.6% during May 2020, followed by North America with 16 tenders and a 20.3% share and Europe with 15 tenders and a 19% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 12 tenders and a 15.2% share.

Solar technology tenders in May 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Solar technology for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Dominion Energy (United States): 1,250MW from one tender
  2. Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Malaysia): 1,000MW from one tender
  3. NTPC (India) and Sasol (South Africa): 600MW capacity from one tender.
