Global power industry tenders in Q2 2019: Thermal technology up 43%

Thermal technology tenders activity in Q2 2019 saw 716 tenders announced, marking a rise of 43% over the last four-quarter average of 499, according to GlobalData's power industry tenders database.

Oil was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of tenders for the quarter, accounting for 562 tenders and a 79.2% share, followed by Coal with 96 tenders and a 13.5% share. Gas stood in third place with 52 tenders and a 7.3% share.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the top position in terms of number of tenders during Q2 2019 with a 57.7% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 474 tenders and a 66.2% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 218 tenders and a 30.4% share
  3. Project Implementation: 14 tenders and a 2% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: eight tenders and a 1.1% share
  5. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 0.1% share

Asia-Pacific leads thermal tenders activity in Q2 2019

Comparing tenders activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 314 tenders and a share of 43.9% during Q2 2019, followed by North America with 293 tenders and a 40.9% share and Middle East and Africa with 73 tenders and a 10.2% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 33 tenders and a 4.6% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with three tenders and a 0.4% share.

The top issuers of tenders in Thermal technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
