Global power industry tenders in Q2 2019: Hydro technology down 30%

Hydro technology tenders activity in Q2 2019 saw 93 tenders announced, marking a drop of 30% over the last four-quarter average of 133, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, hydro held the third position in terms of number of tenders during Q2 2019 with a 7.5% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Hydro technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 34 tenders and a 36.6% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: 24 tenders and a 25.8% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 21 tenders and a 22.6% share
  4. Project Implementation: eight tenders and an 8.6% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: five tenders and a 5.4% share
  6. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 1.1% share.

Asia-Pacific leads hydro tenders activity in Q2 2019

Comparing tenders activity in hydro technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 56 tenders and a share of 60.2% during Q2 2019, followed by Middle East and Africa with 15 tenders and a 16.1% share and North America with 15 tenders and a 16.1% share.

In fourth place was Europe with five tenders and a 5.4% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with two tenders and a 2.2% share.

Hydro technology tenders in Q2 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Hydro technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Department of Electricity Development (Nepal): 1,725.1MW from eight tenders
  2. Vectren (United States): 700MW from one tender
  3. Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (Pakistan): 300MW capacity from one tender.
