Global power industry tenders in Q2 2020: Thermal technology down 12%

Thermal technology tenders activity in Q2 2020 saw 457 tenders announced, marking a drop of 12% over the last four-quarter average of 521, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Oil was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of tenders for the quarter, accounting for 344 tenders and a 74.9% share, followed by Coal with 73 tenders and a 15.9% share. Gas stood in third place with 42 tenders and a 9.2% share.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the top position in terms of number of tenders during Q2 2020 with a 53.2% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: 272 tenders and a 59.5% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 166 tenders and a 36.3% share
  3. Project Implementation: 11 tenders and a 2.4% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: six tenders and a 1.3% share
  5. Electricity Supply: one tender and a 0.2% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 0.2% share.

North America leads thermal tenders activity in Q2 2020

Comparing tenders activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 243 tenders and a share of 53.2% during Q2 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 142 tenders and a 31.1% share and Europe with 56 tenders and a 12.3% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 14 tenders and a 3.1% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with two tenders and a 0.4% share.
