Global power industry tenders in Q3 2019: Wind technology down 26%

Wind technology tenders activity in Q3 2019 saw 43 tenders announced, marking a drop of 26% over the last four-quarter average of 58, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of tenders for the quarter, accounting for 32 tenders and a 76.2% share, followed by Offshore with ten tenders and a 23.8% share.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the fourth position in terms of number of tenders during Q3 2019 with a 5.2% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 16 tenders and a 37.2% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: 11 tenders and a 25.6% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: six tenders and a 14% share
  4. Electricity Supply: five tenders and an 11.6% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three tenders and a 7% share
  6. Supply & Erection: two tenders and a 4.7% share.

Europe leads wind tenders activity in Q3 2019

Comparing tenders activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 15 tenders and a share of 34.9% during Q3 2019, followed by Asia-Pacific with 12 tenders and a 27.9% share and North America with ten tenders and a 23.3% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with four tenders and a 9.3% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with two tenders and a 4.7% share.

Wind technology tenders in Q3 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Wind technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Urzad Regulacji Energetyki (Poland): 2,500MW from one tender
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,400MW capacity from two tenders.
  3. Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (United States): 2,000MW from one tenders
