Global power industry tenders in Q3 2020: Hydro technology down 8%

Hydro technology tenders activity in Q3 2020 saw 58 tenders announced, marking a drop of 8% over the last four-quarter average of 63, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, hydro held the third position in terms of number of tenders during Q3 2020 with a 5.4% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Hydro technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 15 tenders and a 25.9% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 15 tenders and a 25.9% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: 14 tenders and a 24.1% share
  4. Project Implementation: nine tenders and a 15.5% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: three tenders and a 5.2% share
  6. Electricity Supply: two tenders and a 3.4% share.

Asia-Pacific leads hydro tenders activity in Q3 2020

Comparing tenders activity in hydro technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 34 tenders and a share of 58.6% during Q3 2020, followed by Europe with 14 tenders and a 24.1% share and North America with four tenders and a 6.9% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with three tenders and a 5.2% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with three tenders and a 5.2% share.

Hydro technology tenders in Q3 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Hydro technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. The Tata Power (India): 150MW from one tender
  2. Hrvatski Operator Trzista Energije (Croatia): 88MW from one tender
  3. Electricity Development (Cameroon): 72MW capacity from one tender.
