Global power industry tenders in Q3 2020: Solar technology up 35%

Solar technology tenders activity in Q3 2020 saw 423 tenders announced, marking a rise of 35% over the last four-quarter average of 313, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the second position in terms of number of tenders during Q3 2020 with a 39.6% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

1. Project Implementation: 333 tenders and a 78.7% share
2. Supply & Erection: 32 tenders and a 7.6% share
3. Consulting & Similar Services: 23 tenders and a 5.4% share
4. Power Purchase Agreement: 16 tenders and a 3.8% share
5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 15 tenders and a 3.5% share
6. Electricity Supply: four tenders and a 0.9% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar tenders activity in Q3 2020

Comparing tenders activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 263 tenders and a share of 62.2% during Q3 2020, followed by Europe with 63 tenders and a 14.9% share and North America with 51 tenders and a 12.1% share.

In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 35 tenders and an 8.3% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 11 tenders and a 2.6% share.

Solar technology tenders in Q3 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Solar technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. Bundesnetzagentur (Germany): 19,450MW from two tenders
2. National Energy Regulator of South Africa (South Africa): 12,000MW from one tender
3. NSW Coalition State Government: 8,000MW capacity from one tender.
