Power industry tenders activity in Q4 2019 saw 2,813 tenders announced, marking a drop of 6% over the last four-quarter average of 2,998, according to GlobalData’s power database.

Power industry tenders in Q4 2019: Asia-Pacific leads global activity

On comparing tenders activity in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 1,838 tenders and a share of 65.3% during Q4 2019, followed by North America with 371 tenders and a 13.2% share and Middle East and Africa with 325 tenders and an 11.6% share.

In fourth place was Europe with 259 tenders and a 9.2% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with 20 tenders and a 0.7% share.

On the basis of the last four-quarter average, Asia-Pacific held a lead over others with 1,843 tenders, followed by Middle East and Africa with 427.

Thermal tops by technology in Q4 2019

Looking at tenders by the type of technology, thermal accounted for the largest proportion with 521 tenders and a 56.3% share, followed by solar with 272 tenders and a 29.4% share and hydro with 57 tenders and a 6.2% share.

Looking at power industry tenders divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, T&D Project was the most popular segment in global power tenders activity during Q4 2019, with 1,231 tenders, followed by T&D Equipment (643) and Generation Equipment (534).

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 1,120 tenders and a 39.8% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 996 tenders and a 35.4% share
  3. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 583 tenders and a 20.7% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 63 tenders and a 2.2% share
  5. Electricity Supply: 27 tenders and a 1% share
  6. Power Purchase Agreement: 24 tenders and a 0.9% share.

Power tenders in Q4 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 3,000MW from four tenders
  2. NTPC (India): 2,614.16MW from ten tenders
  3. Northern Indiana Public Service (United States): 2,600MW capacity from two tenders.
