Global power industry tenders in Q4 2019: Solar technology down 30%
Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

Solar technology tenders activity in Q4 2019 saw 272 tenders announced, marking a drop of 30% over the last four-quarter average of 388, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the second position in terms of number of tenders during Q4 2019 with a 29.4% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 186 tenders and a 68.4% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 29 tenders and a 10.7% share
  3. Power Purchase Agreement: 19 tenders and a 7% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: 19 tenders and a 7% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 14 tenders and a 5.1% share
  6. Electricity Supply: five tenders and a 1.8% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar tenders activity in Q4 2019

Comparing tenders activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 191 tenders and a share of 70.2% during Q4 2019, followed by Europe with 36 tenders and a 13.2% share and Middle East and Africa with 24 tenders and an 8.8% share.

In fourth place was North America with 15 tenders and a 5.5% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with six tenders and a 2.2% share.

Solar technology tenders in Q4 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Solar technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 3,000MW from four tenders
  2. NTPC (India): 2,614.16MW from ten tenders
  3. Northern Indiana Public Service (United States): 2,300MW capacity from one tender.
