Global power industry tenders in Q4 2019: Wind technology down 20%

Wind technology tenders activity in Q4 2019 saw 41 tenders announced, marking a drop of 20% over the last four-quarter average of 51, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of tenders for the quarter, accounting for 18 tenders and a 60% share, followed by Offshore with 11 tenders and a 36.7% share. Onshore Repowered stood in third place with one tender and a 3.3% share.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the fourth position in terms of number of tenders during Q4 2019 with a 4.4% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 15 tenders and a 36.6% share
  2. Consulting & Similar Services: seven tenders and a 17.1% share
  3. Electricity Supply: seven tenders and a 17.1% share
  4. Power Purchase Agreement: five tenders and a 12.2% share
  5. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: five tenders and a 12.2% share
  6. Supply & Erection: two tenders and a 4.9% share.

Europe leads wind tenders activity in Q4 2019

Comparing tenders activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 25 tenders and a share of 61% during Q4 2019, followed by Asia-Pacific with 11 tenders and a 26.8% share and North America with three tenders and a 7.3% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with one tender and a 2.4% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with one tender and a 2.4% share.

Wind technology tenders in Q4 2019: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Wind technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,600MW from two tenders
  2. Bundesnetzagentur (Germany): 900MW from one tender
  3. Basin Electric Power Coop (United States): 500MW capacity from one tender.
