Global power industry tenders in Q4 2020: Hydro technology down 20%

Hydro technology tenders activity in Q4 2020 saw 52 tenders announced, marking a drop of 20% over the last four-quarter average of 65, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, hydro held the third position in terms of number of tenders during Q4 2020 with a 5.6% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Hydro technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

1. Supply & Erection: 16 tenders and a 30.8% share
2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 14 tenders and a 26.9% share
3. Consulting & Similar Services: nine tenders and a 17.3% share
4. Project Implementation: eight tenders and a 15.4% share
5. Electricity Supply: four tenders and a 7.7% share
6. Power Purchase Agreement: one tender and a 1.9% share.

Asia-Pacific leads hydro tenders activity in Q4 2020

Comparing tenders activity in hydro technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 30 tenders and a share of 57.7% during Q4 2020, followed by Europe with eight tenders and a 15.4% share and North America with five tenders and a 9.6% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with five tenders and a 9.6% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with four tenders and a 7.7% share.

Hydro technology tenders in Q4 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Hydro technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Spain): 3,000MW from one tender
2. Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai: 100MW from one tender
3. West Bengal State Electricity Distribution (India): 10MW capacity from one tender.
