Global power industry tenders in Q4 2020: Solar technology up 24%

Solar technology tenders activity in Q4 2020 saw 414 tenders announced, marking a rise of 24% over the last four-quarter average of 333, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, solar held the top position in terms of number of tenders during Q4 2020 with a 44.2% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Solar technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 307 tenders and a 74.2% share
  2. Supply & Erection: 45 tenders and a 10.9% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: 32 tenders and a 7.7% share
  4. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 17 tenders and a 4.1% share
  5. Power Purchase Agreement: nine tenders and a 2.2% share
  6. Electricity Supply: four tenders and a 1% share.

Asia-Pacific leads solar tenders activity in Q4 2020

Comparing tenders activity in solar technology in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 205 tenders and a share of 49.5% during Q4 2020, followed by Middle East and Africa with 89 tenders and a 21.5% share and Europe with 61 tenders and a 14.7% share.

In fourth place was North America with 49 tenders and an 11.8% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with ten tenders and a 2.4% share.

Solar technology tenders in Q4 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Solar technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Andhra Pradesh Green Energy: 8,500MW from one tender
  2. Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Spain): 6,100MW from two tenders
  3. Ministerio de Minas y Energia (Colombia) (Colombia): 5,000MW capacity from one tender.
