Global power industry tenders in Q4 2020: Wind technology down 14%
Oil and gas companies are making moves into the UK energy market.

Wind technology tenders activity in Q4 2020 saw 37 tenders announced, marking a drop of 14% over the last four-quarter average of 43, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

Onshore was the top category in wind technology in terms of number of tenders for the quarter, accounting for 23 tenders and a 65.7% share, followed by Offshore with 12 tenders and a 34.3% share.

Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, wind held the fourth position in terms of number of tenders during Q4 2020 with a 4% share.

The proportion of tenders by category in the Wind technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: nine tenders and a 24.3% share
  2. Power Purchase Agreement: eight tenders and a 21.6% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: seven tenders and an 18.9% share
  4. Electricity Supply: six tenders and a 16.2% share
  5. Supply & Erection: four tenders and a 10.8% share
  6. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three tenders and an 8.1% share.

Europe leads wind tenders activity in Q4 2020

Comparing tenders activity in wind technology in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 21 tenders and a share of 56.8% during Q4 2020, followed by North America with seven tenders and an 18.9% share and Asia-Pacific with five tenders and a 13.5% share.

In fourth place was South and Central America with three tenders and an 8.1% share and in fifth place was Middle East and Africa with one tender and a 2.7% share.

Wind technology tenders in Q4 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of tenders in Wind technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Spain): 6,100MW from two tenders
  2. Ministerio de Minas y Energia (Colombia) (Colombia): 5,000MW from one tender
  3. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,200MW capacity from one tender.
