Power plant tenders down 45% in April 2020

Power plant tenders in April 2020 saw 62 tenders announced, marking a drop of 45% over the last 12-month average of 113, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Project Implementation: 47 tenders and a 75.8% share
2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: eight tenders and a 12.9% share
3. Consulting & Similar Services: six tenders and a 9.7% share
4. Supply & Erection: one tender and a 1.6% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in April 2020

Comparing tenders activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 37 tenders and a share of 59.7% during April 2020, followed by Europe with ten tenders and a 16.1% share and North America with eight tenders and a 12.9% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant tenders in April 2020

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 48 tenders with an 80% share, followed by hydro with five tenders and an 8.3% share and wind with four tenders and a 6.7% share.

Power plant tenders in April 2020: Top companies by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 2,515MW from two tenders
2. Renewable Energy Project Development Office (Saudi Arabia): 1,000MW from one tender
3. Netherlands Enterprise Agency (Netherlands): 700MW capacity from one tender.
