Power plant tenders down 4% in December 2020

Power plant tenders in December 2020 saw 121 tenders announced, marking a drop of 4% over the last 12-month average of 126, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

1. Project Implementation: 99 tenders and an 81.8% share
2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: ten tenders and an 8.3% share
3. Consulting & Similar Services: ten tenders and an 8.3% share
4. Others: two tenders and a 1.7% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in December 2020

Comparing tenders activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 52 tenders and a share of 43% during December 2020, followed by Middle East and Africa with 30 tenders and a 24.8% share and Europe with 23 tenders and a 19% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant tenders in December 2020

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 101 tenders with an 80.8% share, followed by hydro with 11 tenders and an 8.8% share and wind with five tenders and a 4% share.

Power plant tenders in December 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

1. Andhra Pradesh Green Energy: 8,500MW from one tender
2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,220MW from two tenders
3. Bangalore Electricity Supply (India): 1,060MW capacity from one tender.
