Power plant tenders in July 2020 saw 136 tenders announced, marking a rise of 25% over the last 12-month average of 109, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 113 tenders and an 83.1% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 13 tenders and a 9.6% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: ten tenders and a 7.4% share.

Asia-Pacific leads power plant activity in July 2020

Comparing tenders activity in power plant segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 91 tenders and a share of 66.9% during July 2020, followed by Europe with 23 tenders and a 16.9% share and North America with 13 tenders and a 9.6% share.

Solar is leading technology for power plant tenders in July 2020

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 109 tenders with a 79% share, followed by thermal with nine tenders and a 6.5% share and wind with eight tenders and a 5.8% share.

Power plant tenders in July 2020: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of power plant tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. NSW Coalition State Government: 8,000MW from one tender
  2. Solar Energy Corporation of India (India): 1,090MW from three tenders
  3. Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkey (Turkey) and Oman Power and Water Procurement (Oman): 1,000MW capacity from one tender.
