Smart grid tenders in January 2021 saw 23 tenders announced, marking a rise of 53% over the last 12-month average of 15, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:

  1. Supply & Erection: nine tenders and a 39.1% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: eight tenders and a 34.8% share
  3. Project Implementation: five tenders and a 21.7% share
  4. Consulting & Similar Services: one tender and a 4.3% share.

North America leads smart grid activity in January 2021

Comparing tenders activity in smart grid segment in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with ten tenders and a share of 43.5% during January 2021, followed by Asia-Pacific with six tenders and a 26.1% share and Middle East and Africa with four tenders and a 17.4% share.

Solar is leading technology for smart grid tenders in January 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for five tenders with a 100% share.

The top issuers of smart grid tenders for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Namkha Rural Municipality: 0.15MW from two tenders
  2. Lismore City Council: 0.1MW from one tender
  3. Alternative Energy Promotion Center (Nepal): 0.05MW capacity from one tender.
