T&D project tenders down 51% in Q1 2021

T&D project tenders in Q1 2021 saw 330 tenders announced, marking a drop of 51% over the last four-quarter average of 668, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.

The proportion of tenders by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Project Implementation: 229 tenders and a 69.4% share
  2. Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 80 tenders and a 24.2% share
  3. Consulting & Similar Services: 19 tenders and a 5.8% share
  4. Supply & Erection: two tenders and a 0.6% share.

Asia-Pacific leads T&D project activity in Q1 2021

Comparing tenders activity in T&D project segment in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position with 126 tenders and a share of 38.2% during Q1 2021, followed by Middle East and Africa with 88 tenders and a 26.7% share and Europe with 68 tenders and a 20.6% share.

Solar is leading technology for T&D project tenders in Q1 2021

Among the technologies, solar accounted for 17 tenders with a 60.7% share, followed by hydro with six tenders and a 21.4% share and wind with two tenders and a 7.1% share.

T&D project tenders in Q1 2021: Top issuers by capacity

The top issuers of T&D project tenders for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:

  1. Germany Trade And Invest (Germany): 600MW from one tender
  2. Guyana Energy Agency (Guyana): 1.03MW from seven tenders
  3. Namkha Rural Municipality: 0.1MW capacity from one tender.
