A Japanese company and a Russian institute will start a feasibility study to produce hydrogen through wind-power generation.

The project will involve producing hydrogen from water through electrolysis using the power generated by the wind power plant, which will be built in southern Sakhalin.

The hydrogen produced will be converted into organic hydride, a hydrogen carrier, and will be exported to Japan by tankers, according to Japan Today.

The spread of environmentally friendly fuel cells used to power vehicles and household products is expected to increase the demand of hydrogen in Japan.

The company board member and hydrogen researcher Yasukazu Saito, along with Strategic Research on Fuel and Energy Complex Development will jointly work for the project by 2013.
