Grupo Bimbo has begun work on the Piedra Larga wind farm in Mexico, which will have an installed power of 90MW.
The $200m plant, to be built in Union Hidalgo, Oaxaca, will generate almost all of the power consumed by Grupo Bimbo’s 65 facilities in Mexico.
Grupo Bimbo will partner with DEMEX (Mexican Wind Farm Developments) for the construction and has also asked firms such as Grupo Calidra, Frialsa Frigorificos and Papalote Museo del Nino to join the project.
The wind farm is expected to become operational at the end of 2011 and will allow the country to obtain 35% of power from clean energies by 2024.
