India's Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) expects to sign a framework agreement with France's Areva for building nuclear reactors at Jaitapur, western India, during French President Nicolas Sarkozy's visit to the country.
India and France are likely to move toward adding two nuclear power plants in India to meet its burgeoning energy needs, the Associated Press reports.
In February 2009, Areva had signed a deal with NPCIL to supply two to six 1,650MW nuclear power reactors at the Jaitapur in Maharashtra.
India plans to develop about 20 new nuclear power plants to help supply its increasing energy needs.
The nuclear power industry in the country is expanding rapidly to increase its total capacity output from the current 4,500MW to 64,000MW by 2032.
