Enel Green Power began operation of its first wind farm in Romania, the Agighiol plant located near Tulcea city.

Agighiol features 17 turbines of 2MW each, for a total installed capacity of 34MW.

With an annual production of about 100 million kWh, the plant will supply energy to over 35,000 households and eliminate emissions of 70,000t of CO2 per year.

Enel Green Power CEO Francesco Starace said that the firm will substantially increase its presence in Romania in the next two years, with various projects now entering the construction phase.

Romania’s installed wind capacity is set to reach 600MW by 2010 from 14MW at the end of 2009, and the total output power generation capacity is expected to total 3,600MW by 2015.
