Babcock International has become the UK's largest nuclear site management, engineering and support services organisation following a series of acquisitions.
Babcock's nuclear business managing director Roger Hardy said that in bringing together the skills and knowledge of a number of leading players in the civil nuclear sector the company has created an operation able to deliver technical excellence and capability to the nuclear industry.
Recent acquisitions include Alstec (acquired in 2006), INS (acquired in 2007) and Weir Strachan & Henshaw (acquired in 2008), which were amalgamated to form BNS Nuclear Services. This was followed by the acquisition of UKAEA in 2009 and VT Nuclear, as part of the VT Group acquisition, in 2010.
The firm's nuclear business offers experience and technical expertise in the sector and knowledge operating at all levels.
Its capabilities cover the management of complex nuclear facilities spanning the full lifecycle, from design and build through operation and maintenance to decommissioning and remediation.
Specialist services and capabilities include nuclear site management, decommissioning, waste management and nuclear materials handling, processing and storage.
Babcock manages NDA sites as the parent body organisation for site licence companies Dounreay Site Restoration and Research Sites Restoration, and is also site manager of Windscale for Sellafield.
