Boralex and Q-Cells have started construction work on the Avignonet-Lauragais solar park, the companies have announced.
The plant, expected to become operational in May 2011, will be equipped with the photovoltaic panels and cells and will be the first mixed solar and wind energy power generation site in France.
The Avignonet-Lauragais solar park has a 20-year contract with Electricite de France and required an investment of €14.6m ($22.6m).
Under a turnkey agreement, the engineers of the subsidiary of Q-Cells will help Boralex in the engineering, construction and maintenance of the facility.
Landesbank Baden-Wurttemberg bank has provided about 85% of the finance required for the construction of the plant.
