GCC Grid Authority chairman Isa bin Hilal Al Kuwari said that once the grid becomes operational, it could save up to 5000MW, worth $3.5bn by 2028.

The grid project, which aims to meet the power shortage of GC, has increased the stability of electricity network and has brought down the chances of sudden outage, according to Al Kuwari.

The grid also opens new opportunities for energy trade among neighbouring countries.

Arab League is working out a plan to connect Arab states to the GCC power grid and connect it with Europe through Turkey and Spain to Italy using sub-sea cables.
