Sanan Optoelectronics has begun the construction of a photovoltaic project worth RMB8bn ($1.22bn) in Anhui Province, China.

The project is being developed in partnership with EMCORE and will be constructed in three phases, reports China Knowledge.

Upon the completion of the first phase in October this year, the plant will have an output of 200MW, generated by PV modules.

The expected total capacity of the plant, after all three phases have been completed, is 1GW per annum.

The Wuhu Government of Anhui Province has granted a subsidy of RMB60m ($9.12m) to a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sanan Optoelectronics to finance the project.
