The US Department of Energy has offered a conditional commitment for a $102m loan guarantee to Wagner Wind Energy and Independence Wind for a proposed wind farm in Maine, US.

The 50.6MW Record Hill project will feature 22 Siemens turbines with capacity of 2.3MW each, and will be sponsored by the Yale University Endowment fund.

The turbines possess a system of sensors and software that will reduce wear and tear allow them to function under turbulent conditions and.

The wind farm will be linked with new transmission lines to provide power to Central Maine Power, the local utility.

The US Energy Secretary Steven Chu said that Record Hill introduces an innovative technology to the US that will boost domestic wind generation and help reach the goal of doubling clean energy produced in America by 2035.
