Echelon Corporation has won a contract for its Networked Energy Services (NES) smart grid control system for deployment in Denmark utility NRGi’s services territory.

The system includes software for sensing, monitoring and control applications for low voltage grid and smart meters to serve about 150,000 homes and businesses.

The firm will begin delivery of the systems in the second quarter of the year while the initial deployment phase is expected to be completed within one year.

The initial deployment of smart meters and related infrastructure hardware and software is expected to generate a revenue of about $16m to Echelon.

NRGi CEO Soren Sorensen said that the NES system being implemented is an extensible smart grid control solution rather than just smart meters.

Echelon also plans to sell software maintenance services and spare parts through 2026.
