Black & Veatch will design Reliance Power’s $2bn Samalkot power plant in India.
The combined cycle power plant, expected to become the largest such power plant in India, will produce energy to serve over two million households.
The power plant will comprise three power blocks, each consisting of two 9FA GE natural gas combustion turbines, two heat recovery steam generators and one steam turbine and with each block having a capacity of 833MW.
The initial capacity of the Samalkot power plant is expected to be 2,500MW.
The facility will provide additional generation to India’s southern grid.
Construction work has begun and Reliance plans to bring the new plant into commercial operation by early 2012.
