BlueChip Energy has signed a power purchase agreement with Progress Energy Florida to supply renewable energy from the Sorrento Eagle Dunes solar farm in central Florida, US.

The solar farm will have a 40MW capacity and an annual generation of over 64 million kWh.

The solar farm will provide power for about 8,000 homes in the area.

The project will be a ground mount system covering 140 acres of open field built in stages, starting with 10MW in 2012.

BCE will build the plant using 174,000 monocrystalline and polycrystalline PV solar panels from Advanced Solar Photonics (ASP) and other manufacturers.

With the power generated from solar energy, the plant will be able to avoid emissions of over 25,000 metric tons of CO2 per year.

BCE is a fully-integrated solar energy provider for residential, commercial, government and utility applications.
