Altona Energy has signed a cooperation agreement for application of Rentech's technologies in gasification of coal and biomass at its Arckaringa project located in South Australia.

Rentech is the owner of proprietary technologies for the Fischer-Tropsch Process (FT Process) and the gasification of biomass to produce synthesis gas.

The Arckaringa project is the joint venture between Altona and CNOOC-NEIA, a subsidiary of Chinese oil major CNOOC, to evaluate the development of the estimated 7.8 billion tons of coal.

The company plans to initiate gasification of biomass in conjunction with the gasification of coal at the project for the production of energy products, including diesel, jet fuel, naptha and electricity.
