US-based Symbion Power has signed an agreement to acquire the 120MW Dowans Power plant in Tanzania.

Symbion Power Africa chairman Joseph Wilson said the Symbion Ubungo power plant will now be revived following three years of disuse.

The company plans to submit a bid proposal to Tanzania Electric Supply Co (TANESCO) to supply electricity through the mobile plant.

Symbion will undertake the construction of 300km of overhead power lines and 26 substations across eight regions in Tanzania and Zanzibar.

The US power company has also partnered with ProEnergy Services, who will act as a technical services partner for the company.
