China's Harbin Electric has signed a memorandum of understanding with General Electric for the purchase of four gas turbines to provide heat in north China.

Harbin's order also includes two of GE's newly introduced turbines, which havwe been designed with an electricity-on-demand approach.

The turbines are capable of adjusting production quickly in response to fluctuations in wind and solar power.

GE has spent about $500m to develop this new technology, which will help utility operators offset the fluctuations in the grid.

Purchase of the wind turbines is expected to take place before the end of 2013, reports Reuters.
