Metso will commission and deliver a 140MW biogasification plant worth €40m in Vaasa, Finland, for power and heat production company Vaskiluodon Voima Oy.

Metso's scope of work includes fuel handling, installation of a large-scale KUVO drying plant and a circulating fluidised bed gasifier, modification work on the existing coal boiler, and automation and IT systems.

The plant will be developed as a part of the existing coal-fired power plant and will be fuelled using wood-based biomass.

Construction of this plant will help in the replacement of 25-40% of coal with renewable energy and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 230,000t per year.

The plant is slated to be commissioned in December 2012.
