Japan's Mitsui plans to construct large scale solar plants with a total capacity of 100MW in the quake hit regions of Tohoku, Japan.

The company has begun negotiations with local authorities and the Tohoku Electric Power for the construction of the project.

The plants will be capable of generating electricity sufficient to power about 30,000 households, reports AFP.

Tohoku Electric Power company is expected to purchase the power generated from the plants.
