Lithuania Selects Hitachi for Visaginas Nuclear Power Plant

The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania has selected Hitachi and Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy as the strategic investor for the construction of the Visaginas nuclear power plant (NPP) in Lithuania.

The Ministry plans to sign a concession agreement with Hitachi by the end of this year and the nuclear plant is expected to be constructed by 2020.

Hitachi has agreed to supply its advanced boiling water reactor for the Visaginas NPP.

Upon completion, the NPP is expected to generate 1,300MW of low-carbon power capacity to be supplied in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.
