Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and engineering firm CTCI have jointly secured a $2.6bn turnkey contract from Taiwan Power to develop three coal-fired power generating units.

The Japanese-Taiwan duo will install three units of 800MW each, which are expected to begin commercial operations in Taiwan in 2015, 2016 and 2020, reports Reuters.

Taiwan Power intends to dispose of the existing power units at the plant and replace them with the new ones.
